Hello! *waves* I'm Annie's friend Kelly and a huge fan of "Pretty Cute Stuff". Out of the kindness of their big, pretty, cute hearts, Annie and Lo offered to let me to do a weekly contribution so here I am. A huge thanks to both of them!
So for my first post, I thought I'd post this adorable amigurumi pattern of Baby Monsters a friend of mine sent me. I'm in love with these little guys. They're all so expressive and unique. You could make a whole army of them to put around your house or give them as little gifts to a bunch of friends. Who wouldn't want an army of mini monsters to do their bidding? Personally, I want to make a Lady Gaga one.
Amigurumi, for those of you who don't know, is Japanese for "knitted doll" and they're pretty much precisely that. They're crocheted/knitted dolls and toys that are usually filled with polyfill or pellets. It's become really popular here over the last decade but I'm sure the tradition has been around for a while. I've seen more patterns for crocheting Amigurumi as opposed to knitting but I also don't know how to knit so that may be a factor.
These adorable little guys were made by the very talented Allison Hoffman who creates amigurumi and amigurumi patterns. She created this pattern for the purpose of teaching people in a class how to crochet in a round which is a very common element of amigurumi. If you've been interested in learning how to make amigurumi, this is the perfect pattern for beginners. I began making amigurumi back in December 2007 and I've been addicted ever since.
Also, please check out Allison Hoffman's blog "Crafty is Cool" for more amazing things she's created. She's made quite a name for herself in the past year after she crocheted the "Conan" blimp and sent it to Conan O'Brien himself. Seriously! Her work is fantastic and she's incredibly generous with her patterns. I can't say enough wonderful things about her.
Awesome first post Kelly! Glad you're on board :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, that stuff is so neat. And little tiny crocheted Conan's are top notch.
